My trip to Turkey by Meena Badran

                       My trip to Turkey

Last summer, I traveled with my family to Istanbul  for a week. We spent beautiful  moments visiting touristic attractions like Topkapi Palace. It’s an amazing and huge palace. There are different buildings and many rooms where the king and queen lived with other royal family members. We also visited many mosques and churches like Hagia Sofya. Hagia Sofya was a Greek Orthodox church later an imperial mosque and now a museum. Istanbul is a beautiful city rich in history and culture. It was an amazing trip and a great experience.

lebanon by ali ghaddar

Lebanon officially known as the Lebanese Republic is a sovereign state in Western Asia. It is bordered by Syria to the north and east and Israel to the south, whilst Cyprus is west across the Mediterranean Sea. Lebanon's location at the crossroads of the Mediterranean Basin and the Arabian hinterland facilitated its rich history and shaped a cultural identity of religious and ethnic diversity.[9] At just 10,452 km2 (4,036 sq. mi.), it is the smallest recognized country on the entire mainland Asian continent.

thanksgiving by ali ghaddar

Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated in Canada, in the United States and in some of the Caribbean islands. It was originally celebrated as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Similar harvest festival holidays occur in Germany and Japan. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday of October in Canada and on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. Several other places around the world observe similar celebrations. Although Thanksgiving has historical roots in religious and cultural traditions, it has long been celebrated in a secular manner as well.

christmas by ali ghaddar

Christmas or Christmas Day is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed most commonly on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world. A feast central to the Christianliturgical year, it is prepared for by the season of Advent or the Nativity Fast and initiates the season of Christmastide, which historically in the West lasts twelve daysand culminates on Twelfth Night;[13] in some traditions, Christmastide includes an Octave. Christmas Day is a public holiday in many of the world's nations, is celebrated culturally by a large number of non-Christian people,[1][18][19] and is an integral part of the holiday season, while some Christian groups reject the celebration. In several countries, celebrating Christmas Eve on December 24 has the main focus rather than December 25, with gift-giving and sharing a traditional meal with the family.

Apple IPhone sales set to pass 1B milestone by Meena Badran

Apple IPhone sales set to pass 1B milestone

In a rare achievement for any consumer electronics company, Apple is about to sell its billionth IPhone. According to Benedict Evans, partner at venture firm Andreessen Horowitz, half of the IPhone’s total has been sold in the past two years. Mr. Evans added that Apple had sold a total of 397m IPods when it stopped reporting sales in 2014, while the IPhone is close to the 1.1bn unit output of the entire Japanese digital camera industry from 1999 to 2015. “The cumulative number of PC sold since 1981 was to pass 5bn this year, while Nokia at its speak in 2010 sold 454m mobile phones in a single years,” Mr. Evens continued.

Always according to Evens, Microsoft wanted to put a computer on every desk, the vision of the smart phone is now a computer in every pocket. Nonetheless, the Apple landmark comes at a time when the drive is flagging for the nine-year-old smartphone. This is said because Analysts expect IPhone unit sales to be about 15 to 18 percent lower than the same time last year. Apple chief executive Tim Cook explained this by saying that by the “strong macroeconomic headwinds, which is causing some customers to hold on to older devices for longer, as well as low-cost competition in Asia and a resurgent Samsung, whose Galaxy S7 is out selling the IPhone 6s in the US.”

Halloween by Meena Badran

           Halloween

What is Halloween?

Halloween but also known as Summer’s End and Witches Night Snap-Apple), is a holiday that is celebrated annually on the night of October 31. It originated in Ireland, and is celebrated in quite a few countries including Ireland itself, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden among others.

What do we do on Halloween?

Halloween, is celebrated in a variety of ways and activities including trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, "haunted house" tours, carving pumpkins (Jack-o'-lanterns) and reading / watching scary stories / movies. So that’s why we enjoy this event.

 Trick or treating:

Trick or treating is a Halloween custom for children in many countries. Children in costumes travel from house to house asking for treats such as candy…

Halloween costumes:

Halloween costumes are costumes worn on or around Halloween. An early reference to wearing costumes at Halloween comes from Scotland in 1585. Halloween costumes have tended to be worn mainly by young people, but since the mid-20th century they have been increasingly worn by adults also.

History of Halloween Costumes:

The wearing of costumes at Halloween may come from the belief that supernatural beings, or the souls of the dead, roamed the earth at this time.

Halloween costume parties:

Halloween costume parties generally take place on or around October 31, often on the Friday or Saturday prior to the holiday.

Trick or treating By Tala Charif

Trick-or-treating is a customary celebration for children on Halloween. Children go in costume from house to house, asking for treats such as candy or sometimes money, with the question, "Trick or treat?" The word "trick" refers to "threat" to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given. The practice is said to have roots in the medieval practice of mumming. Mumming, practiced in Germany, Scandinavia and other parts of Europe, involved masked persons in fancy dress who "paraded the streets and entered houses to dance or play dice in silence.

How to fight boredom ; movies ! By Tala Charif

It’s that time of the year when the weather is cold, rainy and ugly. Most of the time during winter, you are stuck indoors, whether it’s at home, in a restaurant or at a shopping center.

Naturally, you’ll get bored. My favorite way to fight boredom is with a good movie marathon! Whether it’s at home watching it on a DVD or in the cinemas, alone or with your friends, movies are always a good idea!

Here are some of my favorite movies. Get your popcorn, candy or hot chocolate and watch one of these!

·       Spy

·       Hacksaw Ridge

·       The giver

·       The Harry Potter series

·       The Hunger games series

·       Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

·       Star Wars

·       Percy Jackson

·       Marvel movies

·       Grease

Poverty in Lebanon by Karen Yassine

Poverty is an important issue for ranking the society, according to it, we can wait under wich conditions people live in their countries.
Many countries ,and specially the third including my country, Lebanon, as under many researches, I found the average around 28%. In my opinion, this average has reached higher averages for many reasons; one of those is the Syrian refugees. Poverty is linked directly to the civilization of the society that mean for that to reduce this high average of poverty, we should concentrate and invest on education.
This step should be one of the tough of the government with the assistance of U.N, as if the average will be reduced then Criminal average will also reduced and people will leave in peace.

My trip to Antalya by Lea Chaar

Last summer I went on a trip with my mom to Antalya, Turkey. Antalya is a Turkish resort city where every summer more than 25 million tourists visit it and spend their time there. I spent nine amazing days in the Turkish city. When we arrived, a taxi picked me and my mom up to the hotel. Once we arrived, we dropped our bags and went to the beach. I also went shopping because Turkey is known for its shopping malls and stores and you can find a huge collection of clothes there.

Last summer, my family and I traveled to Turkey for a week.
As soon as we arrived in Istanbul the taxi dropped us to the hotel. We bumped our bags in the hotel room and went out to have lunch. We went to Taksim and ate one of the Turkish traditional food "shawarma". A few days later, we visited Bodrum's island to enjoy the hot sunny weather and cool water. It was a great experience!

Every good thing has its end by Ahmad Mehio

Last month, I went to a big river in the north of Lebanon. We spent like 3 hours on the road to get right there + 1 hour walking through the mountain. As soon as we arrived at the edge of the river, the road was not finished, we needed to get our clothes & food to the next side of the river with mini-boats. We had a lot of fun me, my brothers & my friends of France who were there for the vacations. The water was very very cold like ice but when you move into the water you don't feel it. But like always, every good thing has its end & we followed the same steps for the road to the house. The end ...

My trip to Antalya by Sara Fanous

Hi , my name is Sara Fanous and I am a student at the Lycée Abdel Kader in 3eme 1. Last year in the spring vacation I went with my cousin to turkey, Antalya for 4 days.
The day of our trip we slept early to wake up at 2 am to catch our flight at 4 am.
When we arrived in Antalya we watched the sun rise while we were waiting for our tour bus in the airport. When the tour bus drops us at the hotel we waited a little bit to check in into our room. After we got some rest we put on our bathing suit so we could go for a swim in the beach of the hotel. On our second day, we visited the door of Hadrianus and the Düden waterfall and then we went shopping in the Yeni Halk Plaza. After a long day, we laid on the beach to clear our minds. In the night we met some Netherland guys who played pool and ping pong with us . On our third day, we drove to Lara area  on our tour bus and then we went to the departure to discover the small waterfall. When we head back we said goodbye to our new friends that we've met on our second day because their vacation was over. On our last day, we had our day free so we took  a taxi and went to a huge mall where we spend our day shopping and then we went to an exhibition of skin jackets where we watched a fashion show.
This trip was unforgettable because it was an amazing experience for traveling by ourselves and it was the first time that we travel alone together.

Vehicles and means of transportation by Rafic Abdallah

Means of transportation are very useful to people since their creation. It makes it easier for people to go quickly from a place to another.
Long ago, people used horses and carriages as transportation means. Nowadays we use cars and ships with thermal fuel engines, or electrical engines, or planes with turbojets.  The transition from carriages to cars didn’t happen in one step. At first, a French engineer called Denis Papin (1647-1712) had the idea to use water steam as an energy source. Trains with steam-engines were created, and railways were built across many countries. Some carriages were equipped with steam-engines, and they could be considered as the first automated vehicles, apart from the trains. Then, in 1866, the first car with a thermal fuel engine was created. Back then it had no roof or windshield, and breakdowns were very frequent. Its engine is called a thermal fuel engine because of what happens in it. Inside the engine, there are four hollow tubes that are called cylinders. In every cylinder, there is a piston that moves a certain way to let fuel in so that it explodes with the lit of a candle within. The explosion forces the piston away and gas is liberated, CO ². This explosion liberates energy that allows the car to move.
Ships were wooden and fragile in the past. They were equipped with sails that cause the ship to move. There were many kinds of ships: Men’o’war, frigates, schooners, bricks and much more. Then ships followed the same track as cars. Steam-engine ships and yachts were created and used by the people during the 18th century. Later, they were replaced with thermal engines that functioned similarly to a car’s engine but that were bigger. The energy generated by the engine would drive one or two propellers situated in the back underwater part of the ship causing the ship to move. Nowadays, ships are made of metal, but they are still vulnerable. For example, the well-known Titanic sank during its first voyage because it hit an iceberg.
Planes were created very recently, in the beginning of the 20th century. Their predecessors were the hot air balloons, and the dirigible balloon. They used to fly by the power of propellers that spin very quickly using thermal engines to do so. Turboreactors can’t cross the limit of 700km/h, which is a low speed for a plane that is supposed to travel from a country to another. Nowadays, planes use turbojets. Turbojets aspirate the cold air, heat it by burning kerosene, and then reject it backwards with great power that will propel the plane forwards.

Today, many people use cars as their means of transport in short trips, like going to school or to work, and boats and planes for long trips between countries or cities that are far from each other. There are also other means of transport, such as warships, warplanes, helicopters, submarines, etc. All these transportation means are very useful to mankind.

The Hobbit by Amjad Nasser

Hello, my name is Amjad Nasser .
I'm 14 years old, I'm a student in Lycée Abdel Kader and I am in class 3ème (1) .
I study and do my homework during the week p but at weekends I go out with my friends .
I have lots of hobbies and interests that I share with my classmates.
I love to play basketball, football, listen to music and watch movies.
I usually go to movies with my friends after school and we watch the latest movies launched
 in cinemas.
The most beautiful movie I watched was "the hobbit ",
I won it ticket when I was exchanging gifts with my friend Salah !
It was a brilliant movie; it talked basically about the battle of five armies.
There was a man who saved his village from an evil dragon and later on he became a good leader
of his people.
The "hobbit" , a very important character was under the power of an evil man who made
an army to invade the 'lonely mountain' and get the magical stone ,
came and gave the magical stone to the hero of the village without that the evil leader knows .
The evil leader wanted to take revenge from the one who stole the stone, a big war happened and
five armies get involved till the end the good army won over the rest.
The hobbit is safe and sound in the end of the movie and rests in his house after many many years
to tell his story to those he knows .
